I love Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki. Not every movie is perfect, but they all have a story to tell and a charm that is utterly delightful. I personally think that childhood is not complete without at least one classic Miyazaki movie played on repeat.
These movies are especially poignant for young girls. The protagonists are all young girls going through some large and difficult moment in their lives. They have fantastical adventures that lead them to be stronger and wiser by the end. Its the dream of many a little (or not so little anymore) girl to be a part of these beautiful worlds and have adventures of our own.
Starting in 2022, we might be able to get a little piece of that magic, because they’re opening a Studio Ghibli theme park! Seriously! Look at this thing!
The front supposedly will be styled after Howl’s Moving Castle, which seems like a great way to set a fun tone. Reportedly there will be a theatre, play areas, and, of course, shops, some replicas from the movies such as Whisper of the Heart, Howl’s Moving Castle, My Neighbour Totoro, and Kiki’s Delivery Service.
Reportedly there will be an area called the Dondoko Forest where you might find Totoro and his friends. Hopefully Princess Mononoke village will have some wonderful sites and creatures. I will personally be looking out for some Kodama.
Kiki’s Delivery Service is my all-time favorite, so I’m most looking forward to Witch Village. I am trying to keep my expectations low, but as any die-hard fan will tell you, this announcement is a dream come true.
